Leonardo De Marchi's album dedicated to Fernando Sor

Album

Here you will find my complete discography — from my latest album dedicated to Fernando Sor, to my chamber music albums.

Solo, duo and chamber music recordings released over the last decade on Brilliant Classics, Da Vinci Classics, Sinfonica, Accademia 2008 and other labels, from contemporary works written for me to nineteenth-century repertoire played on period guitar copies. Each album has a short note and links to listen on Spotify or to the publisher.

Latest Album

Cover of the latest album by Leonardo De Marchi, dedicated to Fernando Sor

This album is entirely dedicated to Fernando Sor, a central figure in nineteenth-century guitar literature, and to his genre pieces designed for the bourgeois salons of Paris. The tracks were recorded on a period guitar replica built by Fabio Zontini and through the study of historical performance practice, presented with a particular focus on improvisation.

My Albums

My discography reflects my primary areas of research, although it does not exhaust them entirely.

Cover of the album Le Purgatoire, with Leonardo De Marchi, guitar

Gerard Pape. “Le Purgatoire”. Chamber music participation, ACEL, 2024

«Purgatory is part of a large cycle called Sunset Time which consists of seven days of ritual music. Rituality is one of Pape’s stylistic traits that is often expressed with imaginative and fantastic sound revelations, with unpredictable sound sequences, with powerful flows of voices and instruments in a continuous timbral transfiguration.»

“Z, echi per Giacomo”. Leonardo De Marchi, guitarist, 2022, Accademia2008.

A special tribute to the composer, music critic and translator Giacomo Manzoni. Ten years ago, for his 80th birthday, a special postcard was created featuring an anagram of his name: each letter was paired with the title of one of his works. Only a work beginning with the letter Z was missing — and from this, “Z, echi per Giacomo” was born.

Cover of the album Impressions: selected guitar works by Livio Torresan, with Leonardo De Marchi, guitar

Impressions. Selected guitar works by Livio Torresan, 2020, Da Vinci Classics.

At the beginning we were wondering which possible future direction could there be for the tonal language developments, according to Torresan: a possible answer is provided by the most recent Canzone Per Leo (2019). At the end of the piece does the listener see the narrative tension unfold into a liberating C major triad: this is the most natural epilogue of a CD in which contemporaneity attempts to find its own reflection in the splendours of the past.

Cover of the album Enantiosemie, with Leonardo De Marchi, guitar

Enantiosemie. Contemporary masterpieces for clarinets and guitars, 2017-2018

«Entitling this album “Enantiosemie” – that is to say, words which can mean one thing and also its opposite – signifies the desire not only to show how the clarinet and guitar have been able to and still do interpret innumerable styles and research modes often diametrically opposed to each other, but also how the performer can interpret the same score in completely different ways.»

Cover of Sergio Sorrentino's 14 studi sulla creatività for guitar, with Leonardo De Marchi as guitarist

Sergio Sorrentino. Quattordici studi sulla creatività, 2016, ed. Sinfonica.

“Studi sulla Creatività” is a collection of original guitar studies aimed at developing instrumental and musical creativity. A way to study this fantastic instrument freely and creatively, to discover up close its fascinating sonic and technical possibilities. Because music is a creative art. It is not dogmatic, and it doesn’t smell of the past. Music is joy and a look toward the future. Music is curiosity. Music is… freedom!
